
Jeanne Louisa Hicks, age 94, Indianapolis, IN passed peacefully and with dignity, surrounded by her loving family on September 18, 2016. Born December 3, 1921 in Iowa to her parents, Herschel and Alice Harris. Jeanne grew up in New Market, Iowa and attended the University of Iowa graduating with a Bachelors in Nursing. She was a RN at Community Hospitals of Indianapolis from where she retired.
Jeanne is preceded and welcomed into heaven by her parents Herschel and Alice Harris, her son John, daughter Marcia and brother Bill Harris. Jeanne is survived by daughter Dr. Deborah Pence of Knightdale, NC and her son Robert (Stacy) Hicks of Carmel, IN. Grandchildren Meredith Burdock (Thomas) Olsen of Raleigh, NC; Michelle Hicks of Indianapolis, IN; Megan Hicks (David) Foley of Westfield, IN; Michael Burdock of Groton, CT; Mitchell Hicks of Carmel, IN and 3 great grandchildren, Drevon Donnerson Hicks, Skylynn Hicks and Genevieve Foley.
Jeanne was a friend and mentor to so many. She was among the founding members of the International Center of Indianapolis in July 1972. She was an active volunteer leader of the US Army host family program at Ft. Benjamin Harrison during the Vietnam War. She saw the world through an all-embracing-lens and matching them with positive initiatives and helpful works. Jeanne was an eternal searcher of wisdom of the ages from across all faiths and learned scholarship and enjoyed the arts and music communities of Indianapolis and sharing them with her grandchildren.
Her family extends a very special thanks to all the caregivers at Magnolia Springs of Bridgewater Memory Care Unit for the loving care they provided.
The family will be holding a private celebration of her life.

My deeper condolences to the entire Hicks family for the loss of their mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother. She touched me a lot about life. I’m going to miss her but she is in a better place. She was our magnolia springs of bridgewater memory care unit grandmother we the caregiver love her so much. The family is in my prayers.
